POLO – ELLISDAWE CUP
With a break in the recent wet weather, polo resumed at New Park for the first time in three weeks for the ELLISDAWE CUP. Sponsored by Claire & Graham Ellis-Dawe, who also entered a team for in the tournament that provided a weekend of fast, exciting and entertaining 0 goal polo.
The final was played between Jackson 4 and Maize Dulce in what became a very even match. The match started at a fast and furious pace and with not much between the teams the first chukka finished with a slender 1-0 goal lead to the Jackson 4 team. In the second chukka Maize Dulce tied the match 1-1 and going into the third it was all to play for, the Maize Dulce team now seemed to have the upper hand however the Jackson 4 team were not giving in and they restored their slender lead against the run of play. In the final chukka Peter Barfoot was everywhere trying to inspire his Maize Dulce team to victory but again the Jackson 4 took their chance well adding a third goal for a 3-1 victory.

In the subsidiary final Ellisdawe played Coombe Place, Ellisdawe taking a 1 ½ goal lead into the second chukka. Through the remaining three chukka’s Coombe Place stepped up a gear and were too strong for the Ellisdawe team. The final score being 6 - 2½

POLO – Kuseyo Memorial Weekend
This weekend New Park Polo Club presented the Kuseyo Memorial Trophy. With four strong 4 goal teams an entertaining weekend of polo was certainly on the cards. Saturday saw the play offs with two teams Churchill Retirement & Coombe Place ending up in the final.
The final on Sunday began and the game was tight throughout the first two chukka’s with end-to-end polo being played. Simon Jackson drew first blood for Coombe Place with some good individual skill. Then Churchill struck back immediately with a goal for a 40 yard penalty. Lochie Hunter then adding a second for Churchill with a text book 60 yard penalty lofting the ball high and out of reach. In the second chukka James Leonard added the third for Churchill and then a goal mouth scramble results in a goal for Coombe Place, play switches again and Churchill add their fourth to take the score to 4 – 2.
Chukka three, and Coombe Place narrow the margin to one and then two consecutive 60 yard penalties are conceived giving Churchill a 6 - 3 advantage. With Lochie Hunter seemingly everywhere Churchill now dominate the remainder of the match and although Coombe place score again two fine goals by James Leonard and Clinton McCarthy seal the victory 8 -4

In the subsidiary Final Maize Dulce battled Emlor for the Salisbury Cup an exiting and close match Emlor opened the scoring to take an early lead, cancelled out towards the end of the first chukka by a Peter Barfoot backhand through the posts.
Chukka’s two and three remained very close and going into the fourth the score was 3 – 3, with all to play for Emlor nudged in front from a 30 yard penalty, but then Mark Holmes burst free from a melee and neatly slotted home the equaliser, then with extra time looming and just seconds remaining on the clock Emlor snatch victory 5 -4
Supporting The Kuseyo Memorial Trophy , three New Forest teams played for the Fellowship Cup. Played as a round robin tournament, Dansford who earlier beat the Green Bears, edged out the Ellisdawe team who drew both their matches.

The Remnants Cup
In her first season of polo, Scarlet McCoy has had a winning start to her polo, a winner two weeks ago and again this Saturday when Rhinefield met the New Forest team for the Remnants Cup.
The Rhinefield team opened the scoring in the first chukka with a tap in after a goal mouth scramble, taking a 1 goal lead into the second. In the second chukka the Jackson sisters playing for the New Forest team combined well scoring three goals without reply. Closer marking from the Rhinefield team in the third chukka and a goal from Andrew Gebbie brought the score to 3-2 and the prospect of a close last chukka.
The final chukka the New Forest team again found space and were able to penetrate the Rhinefield defense on three further occasions with their sixth goal a nice under the neck shot from Scarlet McCoy. A consolation goal from Claire Ellis-Dawe brought the final score to 6-3 to New Forest.

The Chaplin Cup
Last Saturday was the beginning of the Polo season at New Park, Brockenhurst. In the traditional season opener two teams competed for the Chaplin Cup. The New Forest team raced to a 3 goal lead with the Rhinefield team finally getting a goal back at the end of the second chukka. In the third chukka Rhinefield closed again to 2-3 and finally drew level early in the forth, however New Forest managed a goal in extra time to take the victory 4-3. The victorious New Forest team received the Cup from the sponsor Major J Deane.
