The Holly Hill Cup

Two teams from the New Forest Polo Club contested for the Holly Hill Cup in a close fought low scoring match. The shot of the day was a David Booth goal, hit under the ball neck of his pony straight through the posts  and in bringing his team within striking distance of a win. However with both teams scoring a single goal in each of the first two chukkas, New Park playing in blue ran out winners courtesy of a half goal start due to their handicap. 2 1/2 - 2

The Siamese Cup

This weekend tournament was played for by four teams over two days, on Saturday the Ellisdawe beat Rhinefield 8 1/2 to 2 & Springfield beat New Forest 6  to 2 1/2.

On Sunday the Ellisdawe (-4) team gave a gutsy performance against Springfield (-1) which comprised two Canadian guests and players picked by Roger Whiteof Coombe Place. With Ellisdawe receiving a 2 goal start this margin was maintained at the end of the first chukka with a  single goal aside. In the second & third chukkas Ellisdawe failed to get a grip on Simon Jackson with Sprinfield scoring two in the second with no reply, and three in the third to lead 6 - 4. In a nail biting and exciting forth chukka, Ellisdawe dug deep and now playing above their handicap levelled the match 6 - 6 much to the delight of and cheers of the spectators. The match was finally decided by a toss of a coin in favour of Springfield.

In the runner-up match New Forest played Rhinefield, the match finishing 4- 1 in favour of New Forest.

Play stopped after 2 chukkas due to poor weather conditions

Results for 6th - 7th August

The Celebration Cup

Rhinefield and the Forest played for the Celebration Cup in a tournament played over two days. Rhinefield took an 2 - 0 1st chukka  lead with an solo effort by Caroline Giles, which was then added to by Graham Dawe after receiving a pass from Caroline . The Forest fought back but fininshed trailing at the end of the 4th chukka 3 - 2.

On Sunday the match seasawed first one way then the other with no team getting an advantage and at the final bell the score was 9 - 9. To settle the match the umpires elected to call for penaties from the 40 yard spot from each player. Unfortuantely with misses by Graham Dawe, Staurt Broughton for Rhinefield  and Derek Clitherow, Martin Peaty for New Forest the teams remain tied. The final decider was a "pony club run-down", with Stuart Broughton making amends for his peanlty miss he took three hits end to end to win the match for Rhiefield.

Results for 30th 31st July

The Chairmans Cup

Three teams competed in an American Tournament over the weekend. On Saturday Rhinefield started well taking a 4 to 1/2 lead into Sunday against New Forest. In the second match New Forest again failed to score despite hitting a post and two goal-line clearances against Coombe Place who lead 3 to 0. In the third match Coombe Place carried on their good form especially James Haig who helped his side take a comanding 5 1/2  to 0 lead over Rhinefield

On Sunday finally New Forest get off the mark scoring two goals, alas  Rhinefield added to their tally making the final score 9 to 2 1/2. In the second half of their game against Coombe Place, New Forest were again unlucky not to score and Coombe Place ran out 7 to 0 victors. In the third match which saw the best polo of the weekend with some exhilarating shot making cheered on by the spectators, Coombe Place completed their victory over Rhinefield by 7 1/2 to 0

Note, due to an injury in the 1st chukka on Sunday Will Ellis was replaced by Hannah Booth, the NFPC wishes Will a speady recovery.

Clitherow Cup

This match was contested by a team from Tidworth against the New Forest. The match started with only one goal separating the two teams in each of the first two chukkas, starting  with a Luke Harris goal in the 1st Chukka, and Tidworth adding to their score making it 2-0 after the 2nd. Four goals in the 3rd chukka saw Tidworth taking a firm grip of the game and leading 6-0. The match finished with a resounding 8-0 victory for the visitors and an excellent day for Luke Harris scoring four goals.

Parkinson Cup

A traditional Club competition match "Boys Vs Girls" saw the girls storm the 1st chukka taking a 4 - 1/2 lead. Not to be outdone the boys steadied the match scoring twice in the 2nd and once in the 3rd with no reply from the girls. Now in the last with the match now delicately poised at 4 - 3 1/2 the boys finally get in front only to be pipped at the post by the girls with a late winner. Result 5 - 4 1/2

Budget League,: Taunton Vs New Forest

A strong performance from the New Forest team saw them run out 6 - 1/2 winners on scorching hot Sunday afternoon. Highlights included a super solo effort by Simon Jackson with a huge hit from centre and followed up by two taps to the goal, some excellent attacking play by Hazel Jackson and sound defensive support from Sheleagh Hamilton and Claire Ellis, preventing the home side from scoring.

This trophy was contested by three teams on an american tournament basis. Roger White's team Coombe Place proved too strong against two teams from the Forest (New Forest & Rhinfield) and took home the Cup undefeated.
